Linda Lou Herbert's Obituary
Linda Lou Herbert, 86, of Muskegon passed away at DaySpring Assisted Living on March 28, 2025. She was born July 26, 1938, in Hartford Michigan to Arthur and Cornelia (Hurlbut) Minshall.
In her early childhood, she lived on a farm where she learned to love animals, especially dogs and piglets, which led to her lifelong passion for collecting all things related to pigs.
Linda graduated from Whitehall High school where she enjoyed playing the cornet in the band. She also enjoyed boating and swimming on Duck Lake where she lived with her family. After graduating, she attended Hackley Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse and fulfilled a long career in nursing retiring from the Muskegon County Health Department.
Early in her career she met Douglas Herbert, and they married and had four children. After several years, they divorced, and Linda bravely raised her children, sacrificing to ensure their happiness. Her children love and admire her strength and the great love that she always had for them. Linda remained close to her mother-in-law, Thelma Herbert, who continued to love and support her and the children.
Linda traveled after her children left home making trips to Germany and Japan visiting her children serving in the armed forces. She also enjoyed trips out west with her sister and cousin to visit family.
Linda had dear friends from nursing school who always loved and supported her and the children through good and bad. Her friends in the Lakeside neighborhood, were also like extended family watching out for each other and were an important source of help and support for her while she raised her children alone.
Later in life she had a devoted friendship with Augie Panici, and they spent much of their time together enjoying outings with friends, and family gatherings with both the Herbert and Panici families.
As a young girl, Linda expressed her faith in Jesus as her Savior and was a long-time member of Lakeside and then later Lake Harbor United Methodist Churches. She served in many activities at church and has dear friends from the many years of fellowship and serving.
Linda’s family was her pride and joy. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and beamed with a happy smile from the delight they brought her.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and leaves behind: her sister, Jean (Frank) Mumford, many nieces and nephews, children, Brian (Jun) Herbert, Lisa (Larry) Kasmauski, Jeffery (Theresa) Herbert, and Scott (Christy) Herbert. Additionally, twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. We will all miss her greatly but will cherish the wonderful memories of her beautiful smile and warm laughter.
