Lois M. Stevenson's Obituary
Lois M. Stevenson, age 92, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. She was born on May 28, 1924 in Grand Rapids to John and Eunice (McLeod) Stevenson, and resided in the area since 1976. Lois was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served her country in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam as a meteorologist. In 1977, she became the Official in Charge of the National Weather Service in Muskegon. Lois was a former member of Dalton Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, former chairwoman of the Lake Michigan Chapter of International Women Pilots, Past President of the Muskegon Altrusa Club, and belonged to the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. Lois also was a member of the American Legion. SURVIVORS include three nieces and two nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; and two sisters. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 1:30 PM Thursday, September 8, 2016 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Rev. Andy Husman officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Rosedale Cemetery at a later date.
