Lucille H. Nye's Obituary
Lucille H. Nye, age 93, passed away January 8, 2004 at Heartland-Knollview Nursing Home after a short illness. She was born the daughter of Mary and Edward Nye on April 7, 1910 in Dollar Bay, MI where she spent her early life in Michigan’s Copper Country. She started her life’s work as a crusader against tuberculosis in Lansing, Michigan, at the State Headquarters of Michigan’s Tuberculosis Association. In 1943 she made Muskegon her home as the Executive Director of Muskegon County’s TB Association. After many years of crusading against TB, Lucille initiated several successful “No Smoking” campaigns in the Muskegon area schools. Lucille was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Milton Nye. SURVIVORS include a brother, Harry Nye, and sister, Grace Nye, both of Dollar Bay; a sister, Bernice Boatman in Lansing; a very special great nephew, Glenn Boatman in Seattle, WA; two special nieces, Karen Boatman of Cambridge, MA, Phyllis Wisneski of Muskegon; along with several other loved nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation or funeral service, however, friends and family are asked to consider making contributions to the Lakeshore Lung Society, 1147 Third St., Muskegon, MI 49441 in loving memory of Lucille Nye. A special “thank you” goes out to Dr. Karen Seaver for the dedication and care she provided to Lucille, and another special “thank you” goes out to all of the care-givers at Heartland-Knollview Nursing Facility.
