Lynne Sherwood's Obituary
Lynne Sherwood, age 74, of Spring Lake passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 10, 2016. She was born April 11, 1941 in Grand Haven to Marion and Ruth (Krause) Sherwood.
Lynne was the valedictorian of her 1959 graduating class of Grand Haven High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from Stanford University. She went on to earn an MBA in finance from Harvard Business School, where she was one of the first women to be admitted for the full two-year program. A member of one of the founding families of JSJ Corporation, Lynne first joined JSJ in 1981 as a member of the board of directors. She returned to the Tri-Cities area to live in 1997 to take an active role in the management of JSJ Corporation. She served as Chairman of JSJ from 2005 to 2011, following eight years as the Corporate Secretary. In July of 2011, she was named Vice Chairman and Secretary. Lynne’s leadership at the family-owned JSJ came after a distinguished career with Goldman, Sachs & Co. of New York City, where she spent 35 years as a securities analyst, vice president and associate director of research and consultant on special projects. She was deeply engaged in service to the broader community. Lynne was the past president of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation and president of the Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund, within the GHACF, and a trustee of the Michigan Colleges Foundation and Alma College. She was a past president of the Spring Lake District Library board of trustees, where she had most recently been serving as treasurer. Lynne was an active member of the Rotary Club of Grand Haven. She recently was inducted into the Grand Haven High School Hall of Fame for her business achievements and leadership in charitable and community service.
Lynne is survived by two double cousins: Peter (Gordeen) Sherwood of Spring Lake, and Budge (Marilyn) Sherwood of Naples, FL. She is also survived by nine first cousins: Nancy Truitt of New York, Suzy Ageton of Boulder, CO, Gary (Karen) Sherwood of Spring Lake, Randy Sherwood of Grand Rapids, Vic (Joan) Krause of Grand Rapids, John (Leischen) Krause of Grant, Tom Krause of Altamonta Springs, FL, Paul Daniels of San Francisco, CA, and Lucinda Jane Daniels of Chicago; and several cousins once removed. She is also survived by special friends Connie (Darryl) Rabon of Grand Rapids, Marty Erickson of Boston, her JSJ work family and special caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ann Sherwood.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, January 17, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Peter Theune officiating. Visitation will be held 3-6 PM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Lynne may be given to Love INC or to the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation Scholarship Fund.
