Mrs. Margaret Fought's Obituary
Mrs. Margaret Fought, age 92, of Norton Shores, passed away at her home with her daughter by her side on Saturday, May 25, 2019. She was born July 11, 1926, to Hendrick and Maagje (VanVoorthuysen) VanDonkelaar in Muskegon Heights and attended Muskegon Heights High School. She worked at both Monarch Pattern and Paragon Pattern for many years but was also a stay-at-home Mom to her two daughters while they were growing up. Later, she worked at Bright World Candle Company in Saugatuck.
Margaret loved her home, working in her yard and garden, walks on the lakeshore, traveling, and, most importantly, her family. She was a loyal friend and, until this past year, had met with her Club Girls on the third Thursday of every month since 1945. She was an independent, strong-willed woman with a quiet faith and a dry sense of humor who was loved dearly by her family.
On June 26, 1953, she married Paul Fought and he preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include 1 daughter: Judith Ann Fought; 2 grandchildren: Dr. Katherine Rae (Andrew) Kandalec-Holm and Elizabeth Ann (Scott) Kandalec-Cole; 4 great-grandchildren: Cole, Chloe, Quinn, and Kylynn; 2 brothers: Al (Elaine) VanDonkelaar, Gerrit (Pat) VanDonkelaar; 1 sister: Bertha Grant; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter: Paula Rae Kandalec in 1991; her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and her son-in-law Gerald Kandalec.
The funeral service for Margaret will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Fought may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
