I was on vacation from my job in Canton, Ohio visiting family for the holiday. My mom told me about a country dance in Dalton, Michigan, not far away.
So, on July 4, 1997, I visited the Boot Scooters country dance night. As I walked in and searched for a place to sit and put on my dance boots, a country song was playing and line dancers were on the floor. A beatiful latina caught my eye as she swung her hips and kicked up her white boots to the music. I knew had to ask her to dance.
My cousine Sandy sat at one of the tables with her friends and welcomed me. I asked her who this angelic looking latina was. She told me her name was Maria and she was the line dance instructor for the Boot Scooters Country Dance club.
A country 2-step tune began to surround the hall so I siezed the opportunity to ask Maria for a dance. She agreed and we consumed the entire floor as we glided around its huge expanse. Her mother (Virginia), I later learned, grumbled as I danced her to the far side of the floor and back again. She was such a pleasure to dance with and followed every move with grace. Her beautiful dark hair glissened in the light and her smile, that smile, caused me to smile with her. Then she laughed and I knew I had to have the pleasure of more dancing with her.
We danced East and West Coast Swings plus several line dances. I learned her grandson Antonio was born that morning and many family members were there celebrating his birth.
I had the pleasure of dancing with her again Saturday evening, but that Friday was the birth of 28 wonderful years together till she left us all for the heavens to be with her mother and other family members before her. And I am sure our black labrador Dancer is sitting by her side. I am missing her now and always. I love you.
A wonderful Lady, a blessing to work with her. Condolences and prayers for her family.

Over the last 2 years we have had so many adventures. Going to the apple orchard, carving pumpkins, going to Dancing with the Local Stars, so many arts and craft classes ❤️
Thank you for always being willing to be my plus one. I'm going to miss your laugh, your smile, listening to your stories and telling you mine.
Thank you for teaching Ayden to jump off of coffee tables and teaching him that it's ok to get dirt on the kitchen table when you're gardening indoors.
Thank you for allowing the tornado we call Presley into your home and let her play with all of your baby dolls. Thank you for always watching her singing and dancing performances and always cheering her on. (She also wanted me to tell you she has bangs now.)
We love you, Aunt Nana ❤️
