Marion W. Blackburn's Obituary
Mrs. Marion W. Blackburn, age 95, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010 in Muskegon. She was born July 29, 1915 in Muskegon to Charles and Clara (Talmadge) Horton, and resided in the area most of her life. Mrs. Blackburn loved jazz music and worked as a musician for 70 years, playing piano with the Jimmy Weathers Band, and in Chicago piano bars during the prohibition years. She was a life member of the Musician’s Union, and belonged to Wolf Lake United Methodist Church. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Cathy (Michael) Ogren of Muskegon and Michael Blackburn of Egelston Twp.; 5 grandchildren, Mindy (Brian) Orr, Jamie Decker, Michael (Laura) Ogren, Robert (Kathleen) Blackburn and Adam (Marcy Saucher) Blackburn; and 9 great grandchildren. Mrs. Blackburn was preceded in death by her brothers, George and William Horton; sisters, Agnes Brown, Gladys Schmelling, Beatrice Looker and Louise Fair. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 1PM Wednesday at Fellowship Reformed Church (4200 Apple Ave.) with Rev. Greg VanderMeer officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210. Burial will take place in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Fellowship Reformed Church Music Fund will be appreciated.
