Mr. Mark Alan VandenBosch's Obituary
Mr. Mark Alan VandenBosch, age 36, passed away early Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Poppen Residence. Mark was born in March of 1978 to Paul and Paula (Garzelloni) VandenBosch at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. He was the second of three children. Mark grew up in Norton Shores on Lake Michigan and spent countless hours climbing the sand dunes, making campfires, running in the woods and down by the water with his brother, Craig and all of the neighborhood boys. He graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1996 where he was a member of the Marching Band, Jazz Band and was involved in various other extra-curricular activities. He went on to graduate from Muskegon Community College and eventually transferred to Northern Michigan University in Marquette where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts with high honors in 2007. During his college years Mark also lived out west for a short time in Oakland, CA. where he worked at a guitar repair shop and a print shop. Because he loved the pristine environment and all of the friends he made while attending NMU, Mark ultimately decided to remain in Marquette, until illness forced him to return to Norton Shores last fall. At the time that he left Marquette he had worked for four years as a produce clerk at the Marquette Food Co-op. He also worked on various art commissions, most notably, fourteen portraits of the chairmen of the Hannahville Potawatomi Indian Community, which are installed at the Island Casino Convention Center in Harris, MI. Some of his other work involved community art, local businesses, and regional musicians. Just before leaving Marquette, he and his friend, Tim Rundman, had a show at the Oasis Gallery there, where Mark displayed many of his recent posters. Mark was a talented artist, musician, audiophile, comic collector, and a good friend to so many. Words can’t describe the depth of our sorrow at the loss of his presence in our lives. Mark leaves behind his father, Paul (Denise); mother, Paula; brother, Craig (Aerin); sister, Laura; maternal grandmother, Mona Garzelloni; aunts and uncles, Tom (Marisue) Garzelloni, Nilda (Dove) Dovale, Dan (Barb) Garzelloni, Tina (Bob) Versaw, Maria (Troy) Pashak, Frank (Kristi) Garzelloni and Rose (Steven) Shupp; cousins, Julie (Kevin) Barclay, Wendi (Steve) Grasman, Scott (Heather) Garzelloni, Dan Garzelloni Jr., Brianna Garzelloni, Dylan Dovale, Mike Lallo, Aaron Lallo, Alex Pashak, Fran Garzelloni, Vincent Dovale, Emma Versaw, Wyatt Pashak, Eric Versaw, Nick Lallo, Kevin Pashak, Jillian Garzelloni, Molly Lallo, Frank Garzelloni III, Giada Garzelloni. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Marjorie VandenBosch and Frank Garzelloni. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL for Mark will be held 10 AM Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken St., with Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding.
