Martin Binnendyk's Obituary
Mr. Martin Binnendyk, Sr., age 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, December 2, 2009. He was born February 10, 1935 in Evergreen Park, IL to Cornelius and Tena (Kerkstra) Binnendyk. Marty also lived in the south-side of Chicago before moving his family to Spring Lake in 1973, and in 1995 moved to Whitehall. Mr. Binnendyk was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1955-1957. He was the owner/operator of Port City Disposal Service for 22 years before retiring in 1995. Marty was a member of First CRC, where he was an Elder and Chairman of the Ministries Committee. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking in his shop, traveling, and loved to drive, whether it be car, boat, or truck. Above all, Marty loved and adored his family. On October 30, 1959 he married the former Sandra Joy TerMaat, and she preceded him in death on October 26, 1980. He then married Barbara Vanderlaan on July 31, 1981, and she also preceded him in death on January 7, 1993. On March 5, 1994 he married Carol Ann Bush DeJonge in Muskegon, and she survives him along with 6 children, Martin (Luanne) Binnendyk, Jr. of Zeeland, Michael (Jan) Binnendyk of Norton Shores, Ann (Russ) VanKampen of Holland, Amy (Douglas) Levering of Hudsonville, Julie (Roger) Helms of Spring Lake, Jeffrey (Amy) Binnendyk of Grand Haven; 5 step-children, Jack (Laurie) DeJonge, Rocky (Kim) DeJonge, Mark (Julie) DeJonge, Bonnie DeJonge, Brenda (Thomas) Bryson; 33 grandchildren, Eric Binnendyk, Sandy Binnendyk, Kimberly Binnendyk, Joshua Binnendyk, Jacob VanKampen, Joseph VanKampen, Katelyn Levering, Jonathan Levering, Kelli Levering, Jenna Levering, Nathan Helms, Sam Helms, Ashley Binnendyk, Jaden Binnendyk, Alaina Binnendyk, Heather DeJonge, Andrew DeJonge, Jason (Jessica) DeJonge, Cara (Brad) Rozier, Robert (Amanda) DeJonge, Brianna (Keith) Heimiller, Mitchell (Lindsey) DeJonge, Lucas (Kristin) DeJonge, Diann Cumbee, Amanda Burgess, Drew (Amber) Cumbee, Bethany Cumbee, Emily Cumbee, Rachel Cumbee, Joshua (Jannell) Bryson, Matthew (Becca) Bryson, Elise Bryson, Abby Bryson; 13 great-grandchildren, Isabella DeJonge, Oliver DeJonge, Ethan Rozier, Liam Rozier, Hannah DeJonge, Caleb DeJonge, Cole DeJonge, Mia DeJonge, Lillian Heimiller, Carter Heimiller, Jordynn Manheim, Zoe Cumbee, Cypress Cumbee; 2 brothers-in-law, Larry (Bonnie) Vanderlaan, James (Lois) Bush; sister-in-law, Gayl (Charles) Nichols; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Susan Joy Binnendyk; 3 grandchildren, Ross Binnendyk, Zachary Helms, Alexa Binnendyk; 2 brothers, Nick and Al Binnendyk. SERVICES will be 3:00 PM Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Mike Borgert officiating. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. VISITATION will be from 4-8 PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565.
