Several years ago, Mart and the Muskegon Shoreline Chorus allowed Allen and me 5 minutes of fame in their annual Barbershop show. Yes, there could have been a babydoll at the end of that skit, but what fun Allen and I had!!!
Allen and I went to Boise, ID one summer and upon our return the little Toyota we left in their yard was chained to their front light post so the rabbits wouldn't steal it!
The biggest and most wonderful surprise occurred in 2005 when Mart and Mom showed up at the retirement dinner for a colleague and me in Shelby, MI. Everyone was so touched that my folks came to celebrate with me. (While I was permanently retiring at 53, Mart and Mom in their mid seventies were still working full time at Bomers Carpet Cleaners, and all my colleagues thought that quite a hoot!) Dana and Allen, the fridge raiders ( They had gone on vacation once and while checking on the house for them, Mart had chained the fridge and put a chair in front of it because Allen and I always looked for ice cream or other goodies.)
So sorry to hear of Marty's passing. He was always one of Bill's favorite barbershop buddies.....and mine too. Glad to know he & Bill can sing together again, in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Marty gave me my first real job helping clean carpets after I graduated from high school. He was a jokester but we worked hard. One time we were cleaning a funeral home in Muskegon & he related a story how one of the funeral directors sneaked into a coffin that was on display. When the helper walked through the dimly lit room the funeral director popped up, said "Hi" and laid down. Needless to say, every time I walked past the coffin display , I hustled! My condolences to Carol & Paul.

We will always remember Mart and his many contributions to the Muskegon Chapter
of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA). He shared so much with us,
memories of performances, suggestions for improvement, and of course, the always
present smile. We will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Grandpa always new how to make us kids smile. He would take us for rides on the property in his jeep he loved, would swim with us in the pool, or just say hey lets take a ride and we would just drive around. He would even sit with me while I played the piano and tell me what a good job I was doing. A great and wonderful man and I will miss you dearly Grandpa
