My uncle Martin was a colourful character and a "gentle" Kortekaas. Members of the Kortekaas family will immediately know what I mean, because his generation - and especially the "Kortekazen" - usually did not demonstrate this characteristic. "Oom Maarten" to me was very special and I am eternally grateful having had the opportunity to get to know him better as a person during my visit with my mum some years ago. Happy memories…. Wishing the family warmth and support in these difficult times. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Anna Balink
I'm proud to say I knew of Martin and Anna and some of the rest of you long ago at SLHS (Business Studies). A good family to know! I had fun today thinking about how
you're altogether this evening celebrating your father's life with your "fun memories!"
For tomorrow---I wish you peace in the quiet moments and comfort to replace your
sorrow. Sympathy to all. Jan Bussard (SLHS 1970s-80s)
I had the privilege of working for Martin in my teens. For many of us it was our first job, the hours seemed long, the work hard. I recall Martins method of communication to be very direct, occasional colorful, and often with a dose of unexpected humor.
It was a great learning experience and the greatest reward was earning Martins respect.
Whenever I return to Spring Lake and run into anyone with whom I worked, the first thing we do is recount our " Martin " stories, and there are many. We laugh and smile.
We will always remember that period in our lives and the positive influence Martin had on each of us.
God Bless,
John Egyed
Martin was a lovely, kind and empathetic man. He cared for my Mother's landscape in spring lake, and kindly continued for us after we lost her. When he decided to retire, he sat with me and spoke about his life story, his love for his family and affection for plants and flowers. He took the time to go through the yard with me and give me advice about how to care for things in the future. A lovely gentle man, so thankful he was in my life. Sincere sympathy to his family.....Judy (jansma) Rau.
