Mrs. Marvella Ann Freres' Obituary
Mrs. Marvella Ann Freres, age 76, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Poppen Residence. Marvella was born September 22, 1940 to Wesley and Lucy (Balkema) Matthews in Muskegon. She married Ronald Freres in 1966 and he preceded her in death in 1974. Marvella then married Robert Freres in 1976 and he preceded her in death in 1997. Marvella was a former member of Samuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and she later attended Forest Park Covenant. She was the owner and operator of Freres Service Station for more than 25 years, retiring in 2004. Marvella was a wonderful grandmother who loved attending her grandchildren’s events, including hockey and horseback riding. She was a member of the Mona Lake Boat Club, volunteering there for 14 years. When her children were young, Marvella volunteered at Lincoln Park Elementary School and as a Girl Scout Leader. Marvella will be greatly missed by her family whom she loved spending time with including her children, Lorie Ann (Greg) Manning of Norton Shores and Jeffery (Lisa) Freres of Fruitport; grandchildren, Ryan and Ava Freres; sisters, Joyce Weersing and Ellen (Bill) Johnson of Muskegon and Patricia (Frank) Swain of Bainbridge, GA; many special nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ronald and Robert; brothers, Robert, Gene, and Butch Matthews; and infant sister and brother, Phyllis and Gordon. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 7, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231 798-1100 with Pastor Harvey Hertz officiating.
