Mr. Marvin L. Patterson Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Marvin L. “Marv” Patterson, Jr. passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 7, at his home. He was born on February 20, 1951 in Muskegon to Marvin and Alta (Wolf) Patterson. A lifelong resident of Muskegon, Marv met the former Gayle Charland while in high school and married her in 1972, celebrating 45 years together. Together they raised their two sons, Jeff and Brett, and Marv couldn’t have been prouder of them. Marv served in the Army National Guard and worked for Sealed Power before retiring in 2009. He was the Vice President of the Orchard View Football Club and coached Little League Baseball when his two sons were younger. Marv converted to the Catholic faith on April 20, 2014 and he and Gayle were members of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish in Grand Haven after previously being members of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Muskegon. In his free time, Marv enjoyed painting, cooking, fishing, going to yard sales, volunteering at church dinners and appreciating old cars. Most of all he loved being with his family. Marv cherished the time he spent with his five grandchildren and would attend all of their activities and events. Marv will be dearly missed by his wife, Gayle; sons, Jeff (Angie) Patterson and Brett (Andrea) Patterson; grandchildren, Jordin, Hunter, Kyleigh, Carter, and Makayla; 2 sisters; 1 brother; special friends, Steve and Linda Thaler; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 20 at 12noon at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Deacon Dave Kasprzyk officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 11am-12noon.
