Mrs. Mary L. Closz's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Louise (Renkenberger) Closz, age 89, passed away at her home surrounded by her family singing to her. Mary was born November 9, 1930 in Muskegon to Francis and Florence (Matteson) Renkenberger. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from DePauw University. She was very active at both St. Paul’s and St. Gregory’s Episcopal Churches, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and as a choir member. She also served as a scout leader for Girl Scouts of America for over 50 years. Mary was well known and well-loved in her community. She married William “Bill” Closz in Muskegon on March 26, 1951, and together they opened their hearts and home to anyone in need. They had four biological children, adopted 14 and fostered many more. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Renkenberger and Francis Renkenberger; her sister, Nancy Wheeler; her daughter, Sherry Arend and her son, Patrick Closz; her granddaughters, Alaina Robinson and Jill Swanson and her great-grandson, Anthony Cline. A service to celebrate and remember Mary's life will be held Saturday, July 31 at 10:00 AM at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 1200 Seminole Rd., Muskegon 49441. Masks will be required by the family.
