Mary Berta "MeiMe" vandenBerg's Obituary
Mary Berta “MeiMe” vandenBerg, age 75, of Grand Haven died unexpectedly Friday, September 2, 2011. She was born June 10, 1936 in Grand Haven to Albert F. and Lavina B. (VanLopik) vandenBerg.
Mary graduated from Grand Haven High School, then graduated from Western Michigan University with her B.S. She then received her Masters degree from Springfield College. Mary was a member of the Holland, Massachusetts Conservation Board and Girl Scouts of America.
Mary was employed by the Hartford, CT Girl Scout Council for a number of years. She retired from Hartford, CT Public Schools after twenty five years of service as a Physical Education Teacher.
Mary is lovingly survived by her brother, Rick (Donna) vandenBerg of Spring Lake; sister-in-law, Lillian vandenBerg of Grand Haven; nieces, Ruth vandenBerg of Grand Haven, Dr. Karin (Kay) Grimnes of Alma, Dr. Alysia (Julien Coutel) vandenBerg of Paris, France; nephews, Dr. Peter (Anita) vandenBerg of Van Wert, OH, Paul (Sue) vandenBerg of Grand Haven, Eric (Ellen) Grimnes of Houston, TX, Matthew (fiancee' Melissa Pohlman) vandenBerg of Greenwood, Indiana; and close friend Jean King of Grand Haven. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Martha Grimnes, two brothers, Peter and Jack vandenBerg, her niece Mary vandenBerg, and her best friend Jan Swenson.
The service for Mary will be held at 11:00 A.M Friday September 9, 2011 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Pat Locke presiding. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions to The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation or Girl Scouts of America are appreciated.
