Mary Elizabeth Obenauf's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Obenauf, age 91, passed away early Saturday morning, February 19, 2005, in Muskegon. She was born on October 9, 1913, in Muskegon, to Lee Donald “L.D.” and Veronica (Willer) Parker, and had been a life resident. Mrs. Obenauf retired after spending 18 years as Cedar Creek Township Treasurer, and many years caring for the elderly. She was previously employed by Damm Hardware and was a Matron at the County Sheriff’s Department. Mary loved to crochet and had made an afghan for each of her 62 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Obenauf was a member of St. Michaels of Brunswick Catholic Church where she was very active in church, school and community activities before her retirement. On February 18, 1933, she married Lawrence Edwin Obenauf, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1954. She is survived by 1 daughter, Carol LaPres (Walter Beyer); 14 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and 1 brother, Edwin Stoody of Sacramento, CA. She was also preceded in death by 1son, William John Obenauf; and her parents. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 11AM on Tuesday at St. Michaels of Brunswick Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Mike Albers officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 to 9PM Monday with a 7:30 Scripture Service at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., 231-759-8565. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Obenauf’s name to St. Michaels Church or Nutritional Services – “Meals on Wheels”.
