Mr. Melvin Emmett Hentschel's Obituary
Mr. Melvin Emmitt Hentschel, age 65, passed away at his home Saturday, December 29, 2012, surrounded by family. Mel was born November 12, 1947 in Muskegon to Ernest H. and Mable (Hanna) Hentschel. He worked at Challenge Machine as a painter and assembler for 32 years prior to his retirement. On June 12, 1992, Mel married the former Jean VanBergen in Muskegon and she survives him. He volunteered his time throughout the years to the Noah Project, SPCA, Muskegon County R.E.A.C.T., and the Humane Society. Mel enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He also liked working on cars or just being outdoors. He was a hard worker, a great volunteer and will be missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife of 20 years, Jean, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Megan (Andrew) Vasquez of Chandler, AZ and Lacey Hentschel of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, Lexi and Makenna; brothers, Gary (Penny) Hentschel of Grand Rapids, Daniel (Betty) Hentschel of Muskegon, and Bruce (Joan) Hentschel of Des Moines, IA; sister, Susan (Jerry) Winicki of Twin Lake; foster sister, Lea Schaub of Nunica; sister-in-law, Cathy Hentschel of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and 3 special “sons”, Elliot, Coco, and Toby. Mel was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Allen. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held Monday, January 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. INTERMENT will be in Fruitport Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the family or Mercy VNS Hospice.
