Melvyn Dean Dalman's Obituary
Melvyn Dean Dalman, age 75, of Grand Haven, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at a local care facility. He was born June 27, 1936 in Grand Haven, to Clifford and Margaret (Van Haver) Dalman. He married the former Betty Ruth Ann Peel on September 30, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake.
Mel served his country in the U.S. Army. Mel was employed at Challenge Stamping & Porcelain for 25 years and in operations at Consumers Power for 17 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Grand Haven Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter with his brothers and sons, loved camping with his family, traveling, and going to casinos. He absolutely loved working in his yard and gardens.
Mel will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Betty; children, Dean Dalman of Grand Haven, Jennifer (Mike) Lopez of Oakdale, CT, and Peter (Susan) Dalman of Spring Lake; 4 grandchildren: Meagan & Michael Lopez and Maria & Adam Dalman; his sisters: Diane (Joel) Schlukebir of Grand Haven, Dawn (J. Paul) King of Norton Shores, Darlene (Ludwig) Schirm of Austin, TX, and Debra (John) Duckworth of Florida; and brothers, Wayne (Linda) Dalman and Clifford (Pat) Dalman, both of Spring Lake . Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Margaret Dalman.
The Funeral Mass for Melvyn will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Fr. Daniel DePew officiating. Friends may meet the family from 6-9 PM on Monday, January 16, at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with a Scripture Service at 8:30 PM with Deacon Bill Charron. Military rites will be provided under the auspices of American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
