Michael Robert Fuqua's Obituary
Michael Robert Fuqua, age 63, of Spring Lake passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was born May 6, 1959, in Detroit, MI to Fred C. and Rosemary (Knoth) Fuqua, Jr. Michael married Sandra “Sandy” Hengy on February 25, 1984.
Michael served his country in the Army and graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He had a storied career as a leader of innovation in the telecommunication industry. Mike will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his family. He was a human jungle gym for his grandchildren, a strong shoulder and safe counsel for his children and the perfect most loving man to his wife. Michael loved playing golf and tinkering with electronics.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-nine years, Sandra “Sandy” Fuqua; children, Michael (Nikki) Fuqua, Lauren (Dan) Paganin, Marlys (Jon) Roberts and Celeste (Dan) Hibler; nine grandchildren, Abby, Charlie, Liesl, Parker, Westley, Magdalene, Darwin, Piper and Ingrid; two sisters, Gail (Gary) DeRouin and Susan Fuqua; his brother, Mark (Cheri) Fuqua; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Joseph and mother-in-law, Iona Hengy.
Mike’s life will be celebrated with a memorial gathering from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28, Willow Domestic Violence Center or Spectrum Hospice are appreciated.
