Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Mildred L. “Millie” Baker, 86, took her first breath in Heaven and was joyfully welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2018. She was born June 24, 1932 to John and Minnie (Lulofs) Hyma in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Millie graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School in 1951 and continued on to Hackley Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1954. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Hackley Hospital and retired from West Shore Urology. She was a longtime member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church where she participated in the choir, Mary Martha Society, Vacation Bible School, church council and the children’s ministry. On September 24, 1954 she married John W. Baker, and he survives her along with 3 children: Diane (Dan) Ullery, Doug (Sheryl) Baker, Steve Baker; 8 grandchildren: Jen Scott, Matt Scott, Chelsea (Ben) Vanbiesbrouck, Hillary (Joey) Saladino, Justin Baker, Chris Scott, Hannah Baker, Ava Baker; 5 great-grandchildren: Addie, Wesley, Maddox, Vivienne and Leo; 1 sister: Dorothy Snow; 1 sister-in-law: Norma Hyma; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; 3 sisters: Minerva, Ruth and Helen; and 1 brother: John. She was a devoted follower of Jesus showing His love to everyone she came into contact with in her life’s journey. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, enjoyed sharing her gift of music whenever asked and loved to be at the lake with her family. The funeral for Millie will be Saturday, October 27, at 11:00 AM at Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 695 Allen Ave., with burial at Norton Cemetery. Visitation at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 will be from 4-7 PM Friday, October 26, and 1 hour prior to the service at church. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
