Monica Jo Sruba's Obituary
Monica Jo Sruba, age 62, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, June 16, 2011 at her home with her family by her side. For seven years Monica fought a courageous battle against cancer with grace, beauty, faith, and a smile on her face. She was born on May 23, 1949 to James and Adeline (Zechlinski) Hindes in Muskegon. On February 19, 1971 Monica married the love of her life, Michael R. Sruba. Monica and Mike have two children, Kristi Ann (Frank) Reeser of Spring Lake and David Sruba of Muskegon. Monica adored her children and three grandchildren; Mac, Bea and Frank Reeser IV. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, baking cookies, and sleep overs with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed time with her friends at Pere Marquette, fast cars, road trips with her special gals, traveling, time at the family cottage in Fremont, and golfing. She was an excellent cook, with pies being her specialty. Monica worked as a bookkeeper at Eagle Island Golf Course and previously at Muskegon Country Club. In addition to her husband and children Monica will also be missed by her brother, Craig (Ann) Hindes of Fremont; her sister, Dona (Tim) Bonnette of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Judy (Chuck) Hadden of Virginia; as well as Dennis (Mary) Sruba, Raymond (Sonja) Sruba, Donald “Dan” (Renate) Sruba, Thomas (Joni) Sruba, Joseph (Barbara) Sruba; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Hindes; her brother-in-law, James Sruba; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Ray Sruba. A celebration of Monica’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. R. Louis Stasker officiating. Visitation at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday, and 1 hour prior to the service at church.
