Mrs. Mercedes Martinez's Obituary
Mrs. Mercedes Martinez, age 66, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and godmother, passed away March 15, 2006 at her home. She was born September 24, 1939 in Laredo, TX to Catarino and Felipa (Martinez) Salazar and has been a resident of the Muskegon area for most of her life. She was employed by Muskegon Public Schools for 24 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Excalibur Club, VFW Post 446 – Women’s Auxilary, Muskegon Eagles 668, Lakeside Vets, Polish Union, Knights of Columbus, Pulaski Lodge, Muskegon County Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Committee, and was the past president of the American Legion Post 9 – Women’s Auxilary. She was an avid shopper and enjoyed arts and crafts. Mercedes married Louie Martinez, Sr. in Hart, MI on October 19, 1957 and he survives her along with 3 children, Nora Martinez, Louie Martinez, Jr., and Anita (Martin) Brady; 6 grandchildren, Cecilia, Aleasha, Amanda, Tyler, Rachel, and Ryan; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Derek, Manuel, and Caitlin; 4 brothers, Jose Salazar, Hinacio Salazar, Dee Salazar, and Rueben Salazar. She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Frank and Immanuel Salazar. A FUNERAL MASS will be 11AM Monday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Olsen presiding. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Sunday at
