Nancy and Dick has always been part of my life (my WHOLE life). They knew me as a baby, send yearly birthday cards, Nancy came to my wedding and I just celebrated 15 years working at Dykehouse Company. In the 1980's, Nancy Ann Dykehouse and Gwen Hills (my wife) worked in related ways as elementary school library staff of the Grand Haven Public School System. They appreciated and enjoyed each other. My wife and I also knew well Nancy's amazing parents, Alice and Len Horton, and a few of Nancy's siblings. Nancy was a gifted, practical, courageous, and gracious lady. Jim, Jeff, Rod, and Laurie- You all hold a very special place in my heart and I'm so very thankful for all the wonderful memories shared with our families. In those memories your mom was like a second mom to me. She never forgot a birthday, and her cards are still in my kids memory boxes. I loved her laugh, and her ability to match wits with Mrs. Helmus in Scrabble- quite a feat. Not many women can camp in a boat- yours did it with class. Her home was open and warm, just like her heart, and I am blessed and honored to have had her in my life. New Years Eve will always trigger a little memory of your parents and the whole gang truly celebrating life and friendship, Isle Royal swimming in freezing water, and all those wonderful movies at Diamond Lake . They're good memories. Laurie, I wish I could give you a hug- we'd laugh and cry a bit, but I'm sure we'd chat pretty easy- good friends can do that. I miss you ( all ) and hold you close in thought and prayer.

To the Dykehouse Family, I offer my sympathies at this time. I met Nancy at St. John's Episcopal Church where it was easy to become friends with Nancy's great smile. After she could no longer attend services, I felt blessed to share the Holy Eucharist with her monthly in her room. Her church family and I prayed for her comfort and peace.
