Norma V. Green's Obituary
Norma Venese Green, age 84, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, July
23, 2005, at a Muskegon hospital. Born December 16, 1920, to Henry C.
and Gladys (Grimes) Willing in Quincy, Illinois, she married William
L. Green January 29, 1944 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death in
1977.
Norma Green was one of the area's most respected and best-known
artists. She was instrumental in starting Lakeland Painters (now
named Lakeland Artists), which she served as president twice, and she
has been an active member since the beginning. She has won numerous
awards and was accepted in many juried exhibitions, as well as being
featured in one and two-person shows. She was a member of the
Gallery Upstairs (now the Gallery Uptown) for over twenty years and
was the director of the gallery twice. She also served as treasurer
for several years.
Mrs. Green was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven,
many local art organizations, and a member of the “Crazy Eights.” She
also enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter Linda G. Watts of Spring Lake; two
grandchildren, Katie Lynn Watts and Adam Green Watts; three sisters,
Patricia Hilliker of Muncie, IN, Judy (Ron) Poppell of Atlantic
Beach, FL, Donna (Joseph) Kehoe of Monroe, GA; a brother Maj.
Gen.(Ret.) David (Jane) Bockel, of Fairfax, VA; several nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service for Norma Green will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday
at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Chris Matthews
officiating. Family and friends are invited to a
luncheon/celebration of Norma’s life following the service. Friends
may visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at
VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Those
desiring a memorial may donate to a charity of the donor’s choice.
