Dear Aunt Opal,

I have to agree with Susan, all of us in California will miss you very much. I am so lucky to have had both you and Henry in my life. I have many fond memories of the times you came to California and the many times I came to visit family in Indiana. I can't begin to say how much it meant to me that you would come south to see me, even if it was just for a day. I know that it was a long way to come, but you came every time. Seeing both of you was always a highlight of my trips. I could never express how much that meant to me. Opal and Henry sat at the dining room table with our mother (and mother-in-law) at Christian Care and we enjoyed getting to know them. Opal was so intelligent and kind and it was inspiring to see the love they had for one another. We last saw them this past Thursday as they were holding hands as they waited for lunch. We didn't know Henry & Opal well, or very long, but we loved them at our first meeting! They were wonderful friends and neighbors to my parents, Fred & Erma DeVries, on Hill St. and we will always be grateful for that time they shared the "Friendship Path" with each other. Many goodies, treats and visits crossed back and forth on that path! I just want to extend my deepest sympathies to Opal's wonderful family. She loved you all so much. I want you to know that it was my greatest privilege and honor to have been Opal's friend. She brought love and laughter into my every day. I loved her dearly and will treasure every precious moment I was blessed to have spent with her. And I will always thank God for such a great gift. Opal was a true gift and blessing to us all. She was beautiful inside and out and was the classiest person I ever met. Opal taught us all about how to be better people...how to be more loving and how to really care about others. And how to live with faith and grace and dignity. She taught us how to laugh and enjoy life-every moment. I know that she's in heaven right now...both shining down on us with her light and love as well as making heaven all that much more beautiful. Aunt Opal you are going to be very missed by the California branch of the Lamons. I can't remember a time when you didn't call to check on us whenever there was an earthquake, wildfire or flood in our area. I will miss all of the long conversations regarding our mutual interest in genealogy. You shared many old family stories that were priceless to me. I was thrilled when I was able to solve one of the mysteries you had been working on for so many years.

You never ceased to amaze me with your knowledge on so many subjects and your unwavering positive attitude no matter what.

I sure would be remiss Opal sweetheart if I did mention what a gift from God you are/were to all who met you! Born on "Christ"mas day sharing a birth with the day we celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior! I have missed you already so much. The towels I bought for you and Henry as an anniversary gift one of your last years on Hill are know hanging in my bathroom year round as the "Best Guest Towels (no one is to use)" that you made me bring home from the first nursing home on Kenneth before your birthday and "Christ"mas 2008. I did not want to but you insisted pulling them out of your bureau drawer. I hope whoever has your Opal ring we gave you treasures it; I wanted to give it to Wendy if it is not w/Opal now. I do not want it back but perhaps Wendy would like it. My intention was for it to be with Opal but so long ago she packed it in a suitcase before leaving the first nursing home. I am not sure where it is but I know Wendy was her beloved niece. Wendy she talked about you all the time with me. She spent many hours talking about Ruth and her time growing up in Indiana with me too. I trust someday I will again see our Opal in heaven.##imported-begin##AvaEvon ##imported-end##

Dear Jerry and family, Phil and I want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers knowing of your loss of your mom, your grandmother and great grandmother andmost of all a loving wife of Henry. Phil and I have not had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Opal and Henry but when we did, we felt they were part of our extended family. Our Dearest Opal has gone but will never be forgotten. Always remembered for her kindness as a wonderful lady, her cheesy potatoes, the Sunday chicken dinners, the birthday celebrations at our house and hers, the sleep overs at her house on Leahy and Hill, boo boo first aid attendant when we fell, green thumb when planting her flowers. Warm thoughts with love for a great lady well missed. We love her so much as a friend first, a neighbor second an adopted grandmother, mom, and great grandmom.
