Patsy, a Queen in every aspect! My prayers are with you and your family. May you be received warmly in the Hereafter by the ancestors. You have indeed fought a good fight; you have kept the faith and now you will receive your greatest reward from the Creator of us all. Peace to you beloved warrior sister.

For Patsy Petty, with Honor and Heart
In ’66, she left the Heights,
With purpose bright and justice lights.
Two years at school, then boots on ground,
Where power lines and truth are found.
At MichCon’s gates, she took her place,
The first Black woman in that space.
A wrench in hand, but vision wide—
With courage, strength, and fierce pride.
At eleven, fate gave her a glance,
A picnic moment, a chancey chance.
JFK’s words lit up the spark—
A life devoted to leaving a mark.
From Red Cross drives to ballot lines,
She served her people, crossed bold signs.
Nine hundred votes in one bold year—
Each name a future, held so dear.
Convention halls and voting booths,
She chased down justice, told the truths.
She gave her voice, her hands, her grace—
And lifted others into place.
To church and child, to cause and kin,
She’s given much, again, again.
But more than dollars, more than deeds,
She plants in others hope and seeds.
She says, “If I can cross that street,
I’ll help the next with steady feet.”
And so she walks, and so she gives—
A legacy that breathes and lives.
So here’s to Patsy—steel and soul—
A woman fierce, a woman whole.
With class and grit, she’s made her way—
And still she builds a brighter day.
