Paul A. Riepma's Obituary
Mr. Paul Albert Riepma, age 84, went to be with his Heavenly Father early in the morning on December 17, 2008. He was born February 22, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Albert and Jennie (Kuilema) Riepma. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy V-12 program in 1943. Paul graduated from the University of Illinois in 1945 and was assigned to the midshipman’s school at Notre Dame where he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He served one year in the Pacific Theatre aboard the U.S.S. LaSalle. After his naval service he was employed by Consumer’s Power Company of Michigan in 1946. Paul was recalled for naval service in 1952 during the Korean War and served as a cryptographer in the Pentagon where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Paul returned to Consumer’s Power in 1954 and retired in June of 1985. He continued to be an avid golfer and strong supporter of Northwood University football in Midland, Michigan. Paul is survived by his wife, Gloria Riepma of Vero Beach, Florida, brother John (Jo) of South Haven, MI, sister Joan Riepma of Portage, MI, daughter Mary (Thomas) Nixon of Suttons Bay, MI, sons Paul (Doreen) of Samammish, Washington, Michael (Cheralyn) missionaries in Bolivia, and Patrick (Sherri) of Midland, MI. He has been blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 20th at the Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference Center (4759 Lake Harbor in Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastor Bill Rudd officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Norton Cemetery. Memorial donations many be directed to the Northwood University Athletic Department (4000 Whiting Dr., Midland, MI 48640).
