Peggy L. White-Knight's Obituary
Peggy White-Knight, passed on peacefully at her residence Wednesday evening, November 24, 2010 following a long illness. Peggy was born in Muskegon on October 7, 1926 to John and Luberta (Meeuwenberg) Wesselink. She attended schools in Reeman and Fremont and was a graduate of the La Parent Beauty Academy. An accomplished hairstylist, Peggy became a master hair designer, twice being selected to the U.S. hair design team for the World Festival Cup of Hairstyling competition in Paris and Amsterdam. Over the years, Mrs. White owned several salons including those in N. Muskegon, Norton Shores, Fremont, Traverse City and Las Vegas. She was the recipient of 2 Charles Awards for hair design, was past president of the Michigan Cosmetologist Association and a member of Hair America “OHFC”. She started her own beauty college, the International College of Hair Design and hosted her own local television talk show “West Shore Spotlight”. The former Peggy White married Mr. Michael Knight in Muskegon on August 17, 1974. Tragically Michael preceded her in death on July 4, 1988. Peggy White-Knight was a tireless champion and promoter of her beloved Muskegon and served on the board of directors of many committees and organizations. She was a member of Zonta, was first chairman of the (Muskegon Heights Downtown Development Authority) DDA, served on the Muskegon Hts. Festival Committee, the Noah project, North Side Spectacular, Great Lakes Clipper Preservation Society, the Muskegon County Winter Sports Complex and the Miss Michigan scholarship pageant. Peggy is survived by: daughter, Alexis Bauer (Roger) of N. Muskegon; two grandchildren, Zachry Bauer (Jennifer) and Ashlee Perry (Andrew); and three great-grandchildren, Owen, Lola and Josephine. A gathering of friends and family are invited to celebrate her spectacular life, 5-8 P.M., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S.
