Penelope "Penny" Adkins' Obituary
Penelope “Penny” Lynn Adkins, age 51, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Penny was born on June 2, 1965 to Henry and Judith Smidt. In 1988 she married Breck Adkins and together they enjoyed 28 years of marriage and 2 children. Penny worked as an Adult Education Teacher for Orchard View Schools. She was extremely passionate about her career and deeply cared for her students. Penny enjoyed sewing, quilting, boating, teaching and gardening. First and foremost was always her family. She was a beautiful, glowing, loving, encouraging woman who will be deeply missed. Penny is survived by her Husband Breck; children, Joshua (Megan) and Jeremiah “Jeremy” (Rose) Adkins; grandson, Ethan; parents, Judith Smidt-Schaffner and Henry “Hank” Smidt (Gayle); brother, Jason (Joy) Smidt; nephew, Sebastian; niece, Grace; aunt, Debbie (Joe) Satterwhite; many cousins and best friend, Jodi Wright. A MEMORIAL VISITATION/SERVICE will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016. Visitation starts at 5:00 with the Memorial Service starting at 6:00 PM. Services will be held at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100). For a more lasting memory, contributions in Penny’s name can be made to Pound Buddies Animal Shelter & Adoption Center (1300 E Keating Ave.).
