Peter D. Ferrier's Obituary
On November 18, 2023, Peter David Ferrier, age 81, passed away after residing in Michigan where he was living with his lovely wife Carol Ferrier. Peter was born on March 11, 1942, to Lillian Robins and Harry Ferrier in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England. In 1957, at the age of 15, Peter enlisted in the Royal Navy where he was stationed for the majority of his service at Henston Cornwall England and was a helicopter mechanic. Peter completed his naval service in 1969. At that time, he and his wife and two children, Adrian and Nicola moved to New Zealand. In 1980, on a business trip to St. Paul, while working for 3M, Peter met his beautiful bride, Carol. They were married in February 1981 and Peter promptly moved his two children, Adrian and Nicola to the United States to join Carol and her two children, Christian and Tracy. The blended family spent a couple of years in St. Paul, Minnesota before Peter accepted a job working with an adhesive company called Nordson and the entire family moved to Norcross, Georgia. It’s there where Peter began his real career of playing tennis. Peter’s weekends were spent playing tennis, tending to his award-winning yard, organizing his garage, and most importantly rebuilding his 1969 red convertible Corvette. Peter went on to rebuild a total of three 1969/70 Corvettes. There really wasn’t anything that Peter couldn’t do. Everything he did was with a meticulous eye and decisions were always made thoughtfully and carefully. Peter paid special attention to details in every aspect of his life. When he took on a task, he followed it through faithfully. His passion for his work and his family would shine through his everyday life. Every vehicle was washed carefully, every pine straw bed was thoughtfully manicured, all his tools were perfectly handled, household to-do lists were diligently completed, personal emails and cards were meaningfully written, and the list goes on. The memories of Peter with his family are endless. In 2007, Peter and Carol moved to their retirement home on an island called Callawassie outside of Beaufort, South Carolina. They met many friends there. Peter became captain of the men’s tennis team, they joined a handful of Bridge groups, he learned to play golf and that is where his real passion for photography became evident. He spent countless hours on the computer perfecting the hundreds of photos he would later submit to the Callawassie Photography Club and often win those prestigious awards. His camera and his photography were his second prized possession next to his grandchildren. When Peter’s grandchildren would visit his true zest for life would shine. Likely, the two favorite memories for all will be crabbing at the local dock and catching frogs and lizards behind the front porch shutters. The time spent together brought out the most joy in him. Peter is survived by his wife, Carol Ferrier; his two children: Adrian Ferrier (wife Susan) and Nicola Story (partner Mike MacCann), his two step-children: Christian Toebe (wife Kelly) and Tracy Jacobson; his two brothers and one sister: Trevor and Richard and Susan Ferrier-Mackay. Also, his grandchildren: Sammy Story (deceased), Anna Toebe, Luke Toebe, Jayden Jacobson, and Brodie Jacobson; and his step-grandchildren: Jordan Carr, Lexie Carr, Justice Sikkema, and Sierra Sikkema. Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Robbins, his father, Harry Ferrier; his brothers: Roger Ferrier and Patrick Ferrier; and his grandson, Samuel Davies Story IV. Private memorial services for Peter will be held at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association [https://act.alz.org/site/Donation] in Peter’s name.
