Philip K. Rogers' Obituary
Philip K. “Gus” Rogers, age 83, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Christian Care Living Center in Muskegon, MI. He was born November 24, 1941, in Bad Axe, MI to Kirk and Luella (Weitzel) Rogers. On August 19, 1961, Gus married the love of his life Julie Marquardt and they shared 63 years together. Gus graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1960 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Central Michigan University. He enjoyed a 30-year career teaching at Reese Public Schools, Port Austin Public Schools and retiring from Reeths- Puffer Schools in 1996. Gus frequented area garage sales and flea markets, trying to find his next treasure. He was also known as a “wheeler dealer” for his love of Hot Wheels, which he shared with children on Halloween instead of giving candy. He was in charge of baking apple pies for his family at the holidays. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Gus is survived by his wife Julie Rogers; 3 sons, James (Martha) Rogers, Andrew (Jacquie) Rogers and Dale (Michelle) Rogers; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Mike (Linda) Rogers, Glen Rogers, and Randy (Mindy) Rogers; 2 sisters, Bonnie Warren and Linda (Karl) Gagnon. He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Kenneth Rogers, Robert Rogers, Richard Rogers, Kirk Rogers, Gary Rogers and Clark Rogers and 2 sisters Judy Krull and Joyce Kennedy. In accordance with Philip’s wishes, there will be no public services. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
