I once was a resident of Pete's neighborhood, in the 1980s, and I also knew him during my 27 years working at The Muskegon Chronicle. Pete was always cheerful, helpful and quick to respond to a daily greeting.

Although we weren't close friends, I'll remember him as a decent, caring human being.

My sincere condolences to the Hinkley family.
