Richard was a great friend. We first met in sixth grade, he walked into basketball practice, and my first thought was “ we are going to win a lot of games “.
Richard was already over six foot tall and growing. We became best friends. We were teammates and did everything together. After college we drifted apart but both ended up in Muskegon and reconnected and made some more memories. To some it up, Richard was just a great guy! Proud to be your wing man my brother!

I am so glad I had the chance to get to know this gentle giant teddy bear of a man. He was truly dear to me and I will miss his laughter, his smile, his stubbornness, and especially his kind heart. I truly am so sorry for this loss. 💕
I’m so grateful to have had Richard as my stepdad. Our relationship was one that grew over time, and I find myself wishing I had spent even more of it with him.
Richard had a dry sense of humor that would catch people by surprise and a calm demeanor that made him easy to be around.
I always appreciated his breadth and depth of knowledge and his willingness to share. He taught me so much about carpentry, classic rock, and auto repair. He also never hesitated to get his hands dirty, and without his help, I don't think I would have been able to keep my vehicles on the road through the years leading up to and through college and I may not have the same love for music that is so important to my life today. I'll treasure the wisdom he shared, the time we enjoyed, and I'll do my best to pay it forward as the opportunities arise.
He will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered.
Dear Gentle Giant you will be missed. When I think of you, I remember your love for my desserts. At family gatherings you met me at the door to check out what I made. You did love my carrot cake, and I always remembered you could not do chocolate. We will all miss you and your calm and sweet personality.
