Richard L. Braithwaite's Obituary
Richard L. Braithwaite, age 70, was born on February 11, 1955, to Robert and Nancy (Frazier) Braithwaite. He died on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan, due to complications from multiple myeloma.
At 6’8”, Richard was a handsome, gentle giant of a man, with a voracious appetite, a wicked intellect, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a standout basketball player and a proud Spartan, having graduated from Michigan State with a degree in Construction Management. With that knowledge, he became a leader in the environmental and multifamily construction industries. His work ethics were such that he had a following of loyal subcontractors, and he was loved and respected by all who did business with him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jim, Tommy, and Billy; his first wife, Pam (Fink) Braithwaite; and his “who rescued who” poodle mutt, Buddy. He is survived by his wife, Laura Sutherland; “favorite” sister, Ann (Philippe) Dequecker; dear stepson, David (Brittany) Wood; a multitude of beloved cousins, including George (Colleen) Shoup; and his loyal wheaten terrier, Lou.
His memory will live on through his cherished grandchildren, Amy and Ashley Eagan, and Max and Rowan Pochert; and his many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom have stories about their bighearted uncle and his penchant for dessert.
In lieu of flowers, please be kind and hug your loved ones.
