Richard "Dick" E. Tindall's Obituary
Richard Edward Tindall “Dick”, age 92 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Verta Tindall, half- brother Walter Crandall and former wife Shirley Tindall. He will be lovingly remembered by his former wife Marjorie VanderBaan; children, Deb (Gary) Szwejda, Sheryl (Doug) Bartolotti and Mike (Julia) Tindall; four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Dick’s life was all about music. He was involved in playing his clarinet and saxophone since he was a teenager. He traveled with a band until he joined the Air Force during the Korean War. After his tour, he began working as a Customer Engineer for IBM, retiring in 1984 after 30 years. Dick played in many different bands in the West Michigan area, including the Scottville Clown Band and the West Michigan Concert Winds, which played concerts at Carnegie Hall and toured Europe. He continued playing his music at The Village of Heather Hills, where he spent his last few years.
Dick also enjoyed hunting and communing with nature at “The 40”, his property in Newaygo County.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Village of Heather Hills (1055 Forest Hills SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506) on March 26, 2022, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to West Michigan Concert Winds or Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, in Dick’s name.
