I don't have any "one" memory of my Great Uncle Dick but I do have many memories of his kindness and concern for family. Uncle Dick was one of two of my Grandfather's younger brothers. I'd see him and his daughters every year at my Great Grandma's Christmas party when I was really little then saw him again at a few family reunions years after Great Grandma had passed.
The memories that stick the most for me came after my father passed. My mother, his nephew's widow, had a lot of health issues that required numerous hospitalizations. EVERY time she was admitted and he was in town he'd visit her. He never had to or was asked to, it was just something he chose to do. The times that I was there too I got AMAZING hugs from him. My Great Uncle Dick knew we were hurting/scared and he gave us the greatest gift of all, his presence. He chose to take time care about family. I was there a couple times when he visited and know it meant just as much to her as it did to me.
My Great Uncle Dick was an amazing man. Age kept me from getting close to all but his baby, Annie, but I pray for all of them. He was an amazing example of someone who knows and shows that family matters.
