Rita E. Bowen's Obituary
Rita E. Bowen, age 81, of Spring Lake, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at a local hospital. She was born August 11, 1930 in Chicago, IL to John and Harriet (Josefowicz) Sugent. On October 18, 1952 she married Robert C. Bowen in Chicago and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Rita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Library Guild, member of Counterpart, member of Spring Lake Country Club, Bridge Club, Secretary of the Tuesday Musicale and patron of the Arts. Rita enjoyed golf, tennis, and her zest and enthusiasm for life kept her very active with family and friends. Rita was also honored and blessed to have such a loving and dedicated group of caregivers.
She is lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters: Nancy (Al) Hicks of Vancouver, WA, Carrie Kendro of Spring Lake, and Katie (Mark) Rasmussen of Spring Lake; 5 sons: Dan (Debbie) Bowen of Spring Lake, Jim Bowen of Portland, OR, Dave (Laurie) Bowen of Downers Grove, IL, Mike (Drea) Bowen of Silverdale, WA, and Phil (Flor) Bowen of Grand Junction, Colorado; 13 grandchildren: Tony and Angie Bowen, Robby Hicks, Max, Chandler, and Cooper Bowen, Andy and Ryan Bowen, Jessi, Chris, and Emma Kendro and Thomas and Megan Rasmussen; 2 sisters, Maryann Martin of Woodland Hills, CA and Bobbi Higginson of Chicago, IL; a brother, John (Elaine) Sugent of Rolling Meadows, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel DePew presiding. Visitation will be from 2-4 P.M. on Saturday, April 28, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Rita may be made to St. Mary’s Education Fund or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
