Rita C. Milas' Obituary
Mrs. Rita Celeste Milas, age 86, formerly of Spring Lake, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Rita was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 22, 1937 to John and Evelyn (Duble) Andreas. Rita attended St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was active with the women’s club and was a M.O.M.S. group mentor through St. Patrick - St. Anthony Catholic Church. Rita enjoyed staying active in school and community events, served as a trustee for the Presbyterian Housing Corp for 17 years, and was on the board of Grand Haven Area Arts Council. She was heavily involved in Al-Anon, Project Charlie, St. Mary’s Library Guild, St. Patrick - St. Anthony Food Bank. She enjoyed traveling and cherished time spent with her family. On June 12, 1957, Rita married James “Jim” Milas in Chicago, IL and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2018. Rita is survived by her children, Jennifer Milas, Annie (Matthew) Schmieder, James Milas Jr., Rebecca (David) Hartt, and Mary Chittenden (fiancé', David Holcomb); 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Jim, Rita was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles Andreas and John Andreas. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated Friday, May 31 at 11:00 am with a luncheon following at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (406 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456) with Rev. Peter Vu presiding. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of Rita may be directed to St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund.
