Mr. Robert R. Bacon's Obituary
Mr. Robert “Rennie” Bacon, age 89, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 17, 2017. He was born on July 19, 1927 to Jabez and Alice (Flaherty) Bacon in Ferndale, MI. He married the former Marilyn Vivier in 1949 in Farmington, MI and they enjoyed 67 years together. Rennie touched the lives of many students and players while being a teacher, coach and principal, especially his coaching years at Traverse City Central. A huge sports fan, Rennie was a player, coach and spectator, and still attended MSU football games both home and away. Rennie’s passions were fishing, golfing, and reading. Known as “Grandpa Bum,” Rennie enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and kept a unique relationship with each of his kids. While Rennie lived in a number of cities, Empire, MI will always and forever hold his heart and spirit. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children Scott (Donna) Bacon, Jim (Marilyn) Bacon, Wendy (Gary) Merkey, and Tony Bacon; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Karen Bacon. He was preceded in death by his son, Rennie Guy; 2 brothers and 2 sisters; and parents. A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, March 25 from 1-3pm at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S.
