Robert G. Carter's Obituary
Mr. Robert George Carter, age 66, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Bob was born in Muskegon on June 23, 1951 to George L. and Zelma (Morris) Carter. He graduated from Fruitport High School and Michigan Tech. University with a degree in Physics and Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Fruitport Christian Reformed Church since childhood and served in many capacities over the years. He enjoyed his church life and had just become a deacon. Bob also enjoyed a variety of activities. He was a member of the Port City Dive Club, Muskegon Amateur Ham Radio Club (WB80QT), AOPA Flying Club, ACWA Quarter Century Ham Radio, ARRL American Radio Relay League. Bob was also a Dive Master and taught and certified other divers. Bob served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Vietnam War. He worked for the NSA & CIA overseas for many years. Coming back to Muskegon, he joined General Dynamics Corp in Research & Development. He retired from there in October 2016. Bob is survived by his mother, Zelma; sister, Pam Miller; brother, Chris Carter; three nieces, Jillian Teufel, Anna Carter and Jai (Josh) Pratt; and great-niece, Niah Mae Pratt. His father, George, preceded Bob to Heaven. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 24 at 11 AM at Fruitport Christian Reformed Church (3520 E. Pontaluna Rd.). Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23 from 3-5 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fruitport CRC Building Fund in memory of Bob.
