Robert J. Cutler's Obituary
Robert J. Cutler, age 85, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, January 26, 2012 following a long illness. He was born in Pontiac, MI the only child of A.E. Bob and Norma J. (Sample) Cutler. Mr. Cutler was a graduate of Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. It was while at Iowa State that Bob met and then married his wife of 62 yrs., the former Elizabeth “Betsy” March. Shortly after graduation, Bob and Betsy moved to Washington D.C., while he was on active duty with the U.S. Navy. He served his country proudly in the Navy during both WWII and the Korean Conflict and retired as a Captain from the Naval Reserves. Bob and Betsy moved to Muskegon from Kokomo, IN in 1957, where they have resided and taken an active part in the Muskegon community ever since. Mr. Cutler was a former Muskegon County Commissioner, and served on the board of directors of many of Muskegon’s organizations, including, past president of Reeths-Puffer Schools; past chairman, Mercy Hospital Board; past chairman, Muskegon County Republican Party; MEGA; United Way and was a founding member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Cutler was employed at Misco-Howmet Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as Vice President/General Manager. He was an avid skier, enjoyed hiking, spending weekends at their cottage on Bass Lake and being with his family. He is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Cutler; three daughters, Candy (Steve) Petrick and their son, Chris, Pam Omer and her son, Taylor, and daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” (Art) Beaudoin, DVM and their daughter, Marie; son, Robert (Jeanne) Cutler and their 3 children, Andrew (Samantha), Justin (Stephanie) and Meggan (Trevor) Dyer; four great-grandchildren; and the Cutler family’s dear friend, Norma Jones
