Mr. Robert Fredrick Start's Obituary
Mr. Robert Fredrick Start, age 82, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 29, 2012, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born June 23, 1929 in Muskegon to Fred and Sadie (Peterson) Start. Bob served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. On August 25, 1951 he married the former Maxine Hoffman in Muskegon and she survives him. Bob worked inside sales for 25 years at Muskegon Hardware and Supply and then 10 years at Action Industrial Supply before his retirement in 1991. He was a member of VFW Post #446 and was a Mona Lake Boat Club lifetime member. Bob was a faithful attendee of all his grandchildren’s ballgames and a big Mona Shores fan. He was instrumental in the development of the Churchill Athletic Association ball fields. Bob loved hunting and fishing, especially on Drummond Island. He was also involved the Monsignor Kehren Bowling Tournament for many years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. In addition to Maxine, his wife of 61 years, Robert is survived by his children, Ron (Sue) Start, Steve (Janene) Start, Mari (Chris) Healey, Nan (Randy) Martin, and Cheryl (Paul) Sells, all of Norton Shores; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Kyle) Mizokami , Eric (Meghan Eschbaugh) Start, JaNae Start, Ben (Katie Brezina) Lillmars, Lindsey Lillmars, Nick (Brenda) Martin, Jennifer Martin, Kelly Martin, Kendall Sells, and Raelyn Sells; a sister, Ruth (Bud) Beebe-Neal of Ravenna; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Stefanie Start; and a son-in-law; Brian Lillmars. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00pm Saturday, June 2, 2012 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. Mark R. Erbes officiating. Military Rites will be afforded under the auspices of VFW #446. VISITATION will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
