I can't describe the level of shock I experienced when I casually stumbled onto the obituary page in Thursday's Chronicle and saw Bob's announcement. My deepest sympathies go out to the Woodruff family. I haven't seen much of Bob (Woody) in recent years, but I had the delightful surprise of finding him two or three months ago sitting at the Red Rooster, which is near my house, and looking great and shockingly like his wonderful late dad, Charlie, a long-time working colleague and friend. Bob told me he had stopped at the Rooster awhile earlier to see if I was there. We spent time resurrecting good memories of family, events and, of course, sports. I remember driving Charlie and Bob (and my former wife) to the Michigan-Wisconsin football game in the mid-1980s. I am a Badger alumnus, so I took a lot of good-natured ribbing from all of the Woodruffs after the game. To Mary, brothers James and Charles, and sisters "Bede" and "Mimi," and to his children and grandchildren, nephews and nieces, please know that I grieve with you.
Very sorry to hear of your loss of your husband. I pray God gives you and your family the strength you need for the coming days.
