Robert "Bob" McCartney, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” McCartney, Sr., age 72, passed away Sunday morning, February 6, 2005 in Muskegon, MI. He was born December 29, 1932 in Flint, MI to William and Wilma (Ashley) McCartney and had been a resident of the Muskegon area most of his life. He retired in 1987 from CWC after 37 years of hard work. Mr. McCartney was a Councilman for the City of Norton Shores, President of 539 Local Retirees, Vice-President of UAW CAP Council, was on the board of Co-Optical, Active in the United Way, a UAW Councelor/Mentor, a member of Lakeside Eagles, Polish Union, and the Mona Lake Boat Club, and was active in many other local organizations. Bob loved building model wood ships from scratch; you can see one on display at the Norton Shores Library. On March 8, 1952, he married the former Marilyn Jenkins and she survives him along with 3 children, Marsha (Thomas) Cook, Robert (Suzanne) McCartney, Jr., Mark (Karen) McCartney; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Judy (Carl) Rosenberg, Jill (Charlie) Stevens, Janice (Tony) Nanna, Joan Ashley (Gerald Reilly); several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 12PM Wednesday at Kainay Community Church (3387 Heights Ravenna Rd.) with Reverend Glen Maiden officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date at Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Muskegon Rescue Mission, United Way, or the Brain Injury Association of MI, West Michigan Chapter would be appreciated.
