Ruth A. Berry's Obituary
Ruth A. Berry passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 9, 1948, to Hendrick and Johanna (Pike) Yonker in Muskegon, MI, where she remained a lifelong resident. Ruth graduated from Muskegon High School in the Class of 1968.
On August 12, 1972, Ruth married the love of her life, Michael Berry, at Evanston Avenue Baptist Church. Together, they shared 52 years filled with love, laughter, and countless hours of board games. Ruth was a devoted servant of the Lord and a lifelong member of Evanston Avenue Baptist, where she enjoyed volunteering with her church family. She also dedicated her time to giving back to her community, working with the food pantry program and assisting Love INC to help those in need.
A gifted gardener, Ruth, found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially watching the wildlife in her backyard. She had a passion for puzzles and loved winning nightly board game dates against Mike. Above all, Ruth cherished the time spent with her family, particularly the precious moments with her grandchildren.
Ruth will always be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a wonderful grandmother. Her tender, loving, generous, and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Berry; four children, Jason (Leigh Kunst) Berry, Eric Berry, Andrew (Natoya) Berry and Alicia (Chris) Mitchell; 12 grandchildren; sister, Cheryl (Gary) Gurden; daughter-in-law, Rosalind Berry; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death her parents; son, Christopher Berry; and sister, Joan (Earl) Kissling. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Evanston Avenue Baptist Church, 1188 Evanston Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, with visitation one-hour prior.
