Diane and Don, I knew Ruth forever. We lived a street apart when we were growing up, we both went to Aberdeen Elementary and Creston High Schools, graduating in 1941. We attended the same church and were in the same Sunday School group.
I was sorry to see you lost your father earlier this year. I knew him because we both worked at Consumers Power Company.

Our sincere condolences to Ruth's family. Ruth was without a doubt the best secretary
that the GVSU Counseling Center ever experienced. Both my wife Jean and I had the privilege of working as psychologists on the counseling center staff under Dr. Robert Woody, PhD, Director, from 1971-1974. Ruth was an absolute gift to the students who met her. Always a warm, welcoming smile, and clearly interested in the personal welfare of every student she met. I never counseled a student who felt otherwise.
Much more than just another college departmental secretary, Ruth was steadfastly dedicated to her work, and helped make any student who needed counseling feel comfortable from the first minute they met her. She was a gift to our entire staff, and I'm certain we all felt the same positive feelings about her. As her obituary stated, "to know her was to love her". How true!
