Ruth Gean Edward's Obituary
Ruth Gean Edward, age 93, of West Olive passed away the morning of October 7, 2017. She was born on February 20, 1924 in Maple Valley Twp., MI to Fred and Pearl (Patterson) Ahnemiller and was raised in Grand Rapids. She maintained her childhood friendships thru her entire life, “to know her was to love her”.
Ruth worked at the radio station WJEF, the Fetzer Broadcasting Co. from 1941 to 1948, becoming manager of the station. She married Donald R. Edward on June 12, 1948, moved to West Olive and had two children, Donald Jr. and Diane. She started working, again, as a secretary in the counseling department of GVSU from 1968-1986 and enjoyed it very much! Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven for 69 years and had been a deacon, sang in the choir and belonged to a Circle. Ruth and Don square danced for many years and they sailed their boat “Heather Honey” thru their 88th year! Ruth played a violin, a piano and loved music! She did needlework of all kinds, liked puzzles and was a constant reader, mostly mysteries! She collected clowns but only the ones that were smiling!
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, and her sister Marion. She is survived by her son, Donald Robert (Sally) Edward, Jr., her daughter, Diane Edward (Joseph) Fahndrich and many step-grandchildren, step-greatgrandchildren, nieces and a nephew!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven at 11:30 am with refreshments to follow.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, Presbyterian Women. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.sytsemafh.com.
