Ruth Gaultney's Obituary
Ruth Gaultney, age 92, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at her home in Whitehall. She was born May 2, 1926 in Walkerville, MI to Lawrence and Irene (Woodward) Routley and lived in Norton Shores for over 50 years. On May 28, 1946, she married Joseph C. Gaultney in Walkerville and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2004. Ruth worked over 42 years for General Telephone and retired as a supervisor in 1986. Ruth volunteered for the Hope Outlet and Knollview. She was a member of the Red Hatters and TOPS. She also volunteered as a den mother for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as the 4H Club. Ruth enjoyed crafts and had quilted 50 quilts and knitted 90 afghans. She was a gifted artist through drawings, sketches and oil paintings. She was a creative writer and poet. Ruth also enjoyed cooking, gardening and woodworking. Survivors include 4 children, Gail Hindley of Norton Shores, Mike Gaultney of Vestaburg, MI, Lynn (Richard) King of Whitehall, Nina (Bruce) VanDop of Whitehall; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Roy (Jane) Routley; 2 sisters, Laura (Jim) Green and Rose (Charlie) Wilson; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was also preceded in death by her son, Stacey Gaultney; her parents; her brothers, Tom, Bill, Bob, Sam, George and Niley Routley; her infant sister, Deloria and her sister, Ruby. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with her grandson, Rev. Jonathan VanDop officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Saturday. Interment will follow at Mona View Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Hope’s Outlet Ministries, Inc.
