Ruth Adele Welling's Obituary
Ruth Adele Welling, 94, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of her children, friends and the incredible staff at Grand Pines Assisted Living.
Ruth was born in Muskegon on February 12, 1930, to the late Richard and Katherine Appel. She had 4 very much loved siblings, 3 of which preceded her in death: Suzanne Grant, Nancy Bundorf and Dave Appel. Ruth is survived by her younger sister, Sharon Appel, along with many nieces and nephews.
In 1956 Ruth married Don Welling, who preceded her in death in 2015. Together they had 4 children: Mike, Suzanne (Dennis Reenders), Nancy (Brian Taylor) and Ross (Annalisa). Ruth and Don also had two cherished grandsons: Andy (Toni) Reenders and Matt (Erica) Reenders, along with 3 great- grandchildren: Lana, Kirin and Brooke.
Ruth often stated that she was " just a mom and a housewife" but to her family, her neighbors and her friends she was so much more. She took tremendous pride in turning the family house ("the Schuler house") into a beautiful, warm and welcoming home. She kept a watchful eye on all the wonderful neighbors of Henley Dr. who throughout the years became like family to her. After almost 55 years of living in that close knit neighborhood, she moved to Grand Pines Assisted Living in 2022 where she quickly made many new friends and had meaningful relationships with both residents and staff.
Ruth's family is deeply grateful for the kind, patient and affectionate staff at Grand Pines Assisted Living for all the loving care they gave to Ruth. She truly enjoyed her new community and cherished her new friends.
At Ruth's request, there will be no service. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
