Sarah B. Johnson's Obituary
Sarah B. Johnson died peacefully on March 25 after a two decade long battle following a brain tumor, Parkinson’s disease, and a stroke.
Born Sarah Jo Brown on December 17, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Josephine (Evans) and George T. Brown. She attended school in East Grand Rapids and spent many summers in Spring Lake on the family boat and later at their cottage.
She graduated from the University of Michigan and was active in the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was introduced to her husband Don by his sister, Doris her sailing instructor. The couple married on August 11, 1956.
Sarah was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, where she was a member of the choir, was a Stephen Minister, and was active in a woman’s circle. She helped make jewel chip candy for a church fundraiser for many years.
Sarah was very passionate about art and worked for many years at the Muskegon Museum of Art as a volunteer and later as the registrar. She played golf as a member of Spring Lake Country Club, and was a member of the Spring Lake Yacht Club. She also enjoyed gardening, snow skiing, and boating with family in Northern Michigan and the North Channel.
She was a very positive person, who saw the best in every person she met. She’ll be remembered as a caring, loving wife, mother, sister, and good friend.
Sarah is survived by her husband Donald, children: Gale (David) Munson, Bruce (Sandy) Johnson, Erick (Holly) Johnson; grandchildren: Chantal, Klare, Max, Madelynn and Ian Johnson, and Lindsay & Christopher Munson; a sister, Susan (Klaus) Klar; niece Elizabeth (Steven) Klar, their children, Max and Sophia; brother-in-law, F.
